Dental Implant
Removable and fixed prostheses that are placed on the implant and supported by the implant are known as “implant overdentures”. This type of prosthesis is used in people who do not have any teeth but have sufficient bone level.
Implant teeth are tooth roots usually made of titanium metal to replace missing teeth. The reason why titanium is preferred in implants is that this metal is the most compatible compound with the human body. Implants are placed inside the jawbone. While all functions such as crushing and chewing can be performed thanks to implants, aesthetic appearance is also provided. Implant application can be performed instead of previously lost teeth, as well as by extracting the tooth if there is no problem such as inflammation and infection.
The main purpose of implant treatment is to create new and usable teeth on the jawbone. Missing teeth are evaluated separately by dentists in terms of aesthetics and health. Implants are created for fixed and removable prosthesis application in the presence of sufficient bone tissue.
One always wonders whether fixed teeth are placed on the implanted tooth. Implant application is performed to increase the retention of removable prostheses in completely toothless mouths. The retention and stability of the prosthesis increases when the implants in the jaw are placed in the slots in the removable complete denture structure. Thanks to this increase, the chewing and speaking abilities of people using implants become much more effective.
In a completely toothless mouth, it can be said that it is appropriate to make between 4 and 6 implants in the lower jaw, depending on the size of the patient’s jaw and the method to be applied in the treatment. The number of implants required for the upper jaw is between 6 and 8.
