Smile Design

The analyzes that arise as a result of the relationship between the teeth, lips and gums and their separate evaluations are described as “smile design”. The detailed analyzes carried out within the scope of smile design are actually known as the evaluation of the smile shape.

The most important factors in providing smile aesthetics are the level of the lips, the level of the gums, the size of the teeth, the color and alignment of the teeth, the harmony of the lips and teeth during the smile and the laugh line. While these factors are considered individually in the evaluation of smile design, their harmony with each other is also examined. The analysis required for the design is made according to these criteria.

In the evaluation of smile design, the aesthetics of the area covered by the teeth and the aesthetics of the area where the gums are located are considered. The area where the teeth are located is called “white aesthetics” and the area where the gums are located is called “pink aesthetics”.

In the first stage of the design, the level where the gums should be on the image taken and which teeth will be included in the design are determined. Then, the tooth – bone – gum levels in the teeth are examined radiographically and clinically. According to this data, a treatment plan is created and put into practice.

The main purpose of all aesthetic applications is to find the most suitable one for the person. The symmetrical appearance of the gums and their level are as important as the appearance of the teeth while smiling. In some cases, it may be necessary to intervene in the gums with laser in order to achieve the desired appearance.

If it will be sufficient to intervene only in the gums to achieve the desired result in aesthetic application, the procedure is applied using a diode laser. However, if a more advanced intervention is required, a hard tissue or combined laser device is used. Hard tissue lasers are more preferred for the comfort of the patient after the procedure.
